The 7th Annual NTU, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association (NCEEA) Fund-Raising Golf Tournament was held at the Warren Golf and Country Club on 19 July 2006. This tournament brings together our NCEEA members as well as professionals from other industries for a friendly game of golf. Other than the networking opportunities, one other objection of this event is to raise funds to assist deserving needy CEE undergraduates to achieve their dreams in completing their studies. Other than bursaries, the NCEEA will also be giving out one book prize each year to CEE student who did well in their studies.
The day commenced with the arrival of our Guest-of-Honour, Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister of the Environment and Water Resources as well as our special guest, Prof. Su Guaning, President of NTU.
After eighteen holes of competitive golf in the cool afternoon, it was time to wind down for dinner. The dinner was attended by Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim, Prof. Su Guaning, Ms Lee Bee Wah, Prof. Pan Tso Chien (Dean, School of CEE), Mr Anthony Teo (Secretary to the University), Mr Tor Yam Koon (Sub-Dean of CEE, NTU), A/Prof Edmond Lo (Head of Environmental and Water Resources Engineering, Mr Soon Min Yam (Director of Alumni Office), Mr Chong Kee Sen, CEE Alumni members and friends.
In the speeches delivered by Prof. Su Guaning and Prof. Pan Tso Chien, they thanked the CEE Alumni for the passion to their Alma Mater and their special attention given to the CEE students in the form of joint activities, bursaries and book prizes. Prof. Su also highlighted that the NTU CEE Alumni is one of the more active Alumni in NTU and appreciated their effort in bonding the CEE Alumni with the university, the school and the students. Ms Lee Bee Wah in her speech announced that the CEE Alumni will pledge a total sum of S$300,000/- (including a one to one matching) to establish an endowment fund for bursaries and book prizes for CEE students. This sum will be raised from this golf tournament as well as future fund raising events.
The event would not be as great success without the contribution of our Master of Ceremony at the dinner, Mr Ong Chin Kia (CEE 2003), our ever-ready photographer, Mr Bob Otto Iskandar (CEE 2006) who captured the golden moments of the event and Ms Jessica Lim (CEE 1997) who ensure the smooth flow of the event and the many committee members, sponsors, golfers and friends.
Finally, as for the winner of the cool C-180 Mercedes Benz for the hole-in-one prize ……he or she would have to come back next year and try harder!
