The NTU School of Civil & Environmental Engineering Alumni Association (NCEEA) Bursary was set up in 2003 to raise funds for NTU undergraduates from the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) who face financial difficulty during their course of study. For AY2004/2005, S$12,000 was allocated by NCEEA for 12 beneficiaries.

At the Letters of Awards Presentation Ceremony on 17 September 2004 in NTU, the beneficiaries of the NCEEA Bursary met their benefactors. Among those who graced the event were Prof Cheong Hee Kiat, Deputy President 3 and Dean of CEE, Mr Chong Peng Jek, Chairman of Student Bursary/Loan Selection Committee and Vice President of Student Affairs Office, Er Lee Bee Wah, President of NCEEA and many distinguished members from the NCEEA.

Both Prof Cheong and Mr Chong thanked the Alumni for their generosity and kind donation towards needy undergraduates from NTU. They reminded the beneficiaries the importance of expressing their gratitude towards the donors from NCEEA who made this possible.

Er Lee gave an inspiring speech on how she overcame all odds to achieve what she has today and reassured the beneficiaries that they need not feel ashamed of their financial status. She reiterated that the Alumni is committed to see needy CEE students through their course of studies, explaining the desire to set up the bursary fund. In future, she hoped to extend financial help to the rest of the NTU student body. She shared that they should not be afraid to venture into countries others deem too difficult to work in as there would be lesser competition and hence, making it easier for them to excel. She also encouraged these students to sign up with the Alumni and be connected to the rest of the CEE professionals. This will serve as a useful platform for them upon their graduation.
